Casimir Pulaski Day

Casimir PulaskiIn Illinois we celebrate a holiday called Pulaski Day. This holiday is celebrating Casimir Pulaski, a general who helped America gain independance.

He trained soldiers here in America, and also served in the army. We celebrate Pulaski Day on his birthday on March 1st (now on the first Monday in March). This holiday is only celebrated in Illinois.

To celebrate this holiday, schools get the day off. We celebrate it because Pulaski was very important in America's independance. He trained our soldiers, and served as a soldier himself. He is a revolutionary war hero through his whole life from 1747-1779. Also, we have a big Polish population, and we have to be respectful to them.
