Memorial day is formerly called Decoration Day. Memorial Day is for all of those men and women that have died fighting for our country. When it started it was made to honor Union soldiers who died during the American Civil War. After World War 1 ended it was changed to remember all of the soldiers that died in any war. One of the longest standing traditions is the Indianapolis 500, which has been held with Memorial Day since 1911. It is also seen as the begining of the summer for some people.
