Labor Day!

Labor Day is a holiday that celebrates the creation of the labor movement and the achievements of the American Work Force. In other words the accomplishments of the workers in America. The first Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5th. This was before people decided that Labor Day would be celebrated on the first Monday of September. For the first Labor Day the Central Labor Day Union organized committees in other cities to celebrate the holiday. Three years later, it was celebrated in the industrial centers of America. Then, finally, in 1894, Labor Day was declared a national holiday. 15 years later the American Federation of Labor Day declared the Sunday before Labor Day a detection to the spiritual and educational aspects of Labor Day.

Many people celebrate this day of in many ways. While some watch the annual telethon which starts on Labor day weekend, others go to parades or Boomsday. People also used to go to the Southern 500 race.`The annual telethon started in 1966 and has raised about 1.46 billion dollars since then. The collection of over 190 television stations that participate have dubbed themselves The Love Network. The money goes to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Parades happen all around the country to celebrate our work force. Boomsday is an extravagant fireworks display that takes place on Labor day in Knoxville, Tennessee and attracts 350,000 people every year. The Southern 500 was a 500 mile Nascar car race that took place on Labor Day weekend. The race was canceled after its 2004 run. One last odd tradition that some people take part in is the tradition of not wearing white after labor day. This wonderful holiday takes place only in the United States.
